Kluberg Barn Demolition & Construction
Fall 2006


When we bought our house in 1998, we knew that one day the very rotten, falling down barn would have to come down.  It was beyond saving and was becoming increasingly hazardous.  Finally, this was the year.  Erik found a contractor (Frank Zolfo at Smokerise Construction), found plans (www.barnplans.com), and here's how the project is progressing!

November 4, 2006 - The dry weather has ended and the days are getting shorter, so it's hard to get pictures everyday

Too wet to bring in the truck with a crane to hoist the trusses, so Erik, Tyler, Dave, and Frank carried and hoisted them by hand...in the pouring rain!

November 9, 2006 - Porch roof is framed.  Almost too dark to take pictures after work.

November 11 & 12, 2006 - Erik and I shoveled gravel, carried shingles to the roof (Erik), and dug the trench to the house for the electrical line.  The barn is ready for roofing.

November 19, 2006 - The roofing, trim, battens, and concrete all went on/in this week.

November 25, 2006 - The doors are in, the electrical trench is filled, and we've begun to redistribute the mud a bit.

December 3, 2006 - Final inspection was yesterday and the painting is in progress!  Lots of cleanup and landscaping yet to do, but KJ helped us make serious progress today.

December 10, 2006 - The barn is done!  The rest we'll do ourselves.

October 14, 2007 - And a year later we have grass!  Summer evenings spent relaxing on the "porch" were wonderful.
